Prost! Celebrating Oktoberfest in the Aurora Area

Posted on by

Hoist a glass! Oktoberfest celebrations in the Aurora Area are a great way to ring in the autumn season with authentic German wurst, days full of merriment, and a Fermilab-inspired Märzen from one of the Midwest's best craft breweries.

Kick off the season with the 130th Annual Sandwich Fair, the oldest continuing fair in the State of Illinois, and the premier agritourism event in Northern Illinois! Mark your calendar for the week after Labor Day and join nearly 200,000 visitors from all over the Midwest to enjoy an awesome combination of good old-fashioned fun with all the attractions and amenities of a modern theme park.

You can find Aurora's biggest Oktoberfest party in the courtyard at Two Brothers Roundhouse. Two Brothers' Oktoberfest is a fun-filled afternoon featuring live oompah bands, authentic German food, classic Oktoberfest games and stein-hoisting competitions. Get your first taste of this year's Atom Smasher, an oaky, hop-forward Märzenbier named for the particle colliders at nearby Fermilab

Plan a weekend around Two Brothers' Oktoberfest with a Saturday trip to Pumpkin Daze at Abbey Farms, a family-friendly series of fall events where you can zip line, pedal go-karts, and find your way through the region's largest corn maze. Visit nearby Chicago Premium Outlets, the largest outdoor premium outlet mall in the Midwest, for great deals on fall apparel at over 160+ exclusive designer and brand-name shops.

The Plano Oktoberfest takes place rain or shine under a huge circus tent located on Main Street in Downtown Plano, Illinois. Snack on traditional German food provided by Wurst Kitchen, a family-owned authentic German-style sausage shop that's been serving up Old World flavor in Aurora for over 115 years. Polka, chicken-dance competitions, and the popular "Miss Oktoberfest" contest round out the festivities.

Plan your visit to Oktoberfest in Plano around the 50th Anniversary Fermilab Community Open House, a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the research facilities and laboratories where an international team of scientists investigate the fundamental questions of the universe. Science and innovation fairs, plus dozens of activities throughout the campus offer plenty of free interactive learning opportunities for the budding particle physicist in your family.

Northern Illinois Hunting & Fishing Days at Silver Springs State Fish & Wildlife Area in Yorkville, Illinois is another great opportunity for all-ages fun in the Aurora Area. Kids fishing tournaments and activities like archery, trap shooting, falconry and hunting dog demos are just a taste of some of the awesome outdoor education & recreation you can enjoy at this free event.

Downtown Batavia's Batavia Oktoberfest celebrates its second year on the scenic River Street promenade. Join Batavia MainStreet as they present a traditional Oktoberfest featuring authentic German food, music, entertainment, and a wide selection of German beers. Stein-hoisting contests occur Friday and Saturday nights, with family-friendly activities all day Saturday.

Double up on seasonal family fun with Pumpkin Weekends at Blackberry Farm. Pumpkin Weekends bring the spectacular fall season to life with autumn festivities at Blackberry Farm, a living-history wonderland where kids can enjoy unlimited train, pony, hay wagon, and carousel rides.

While Cock-A-Doodle Brew Fest isn't technically an Oktoberfest, at this unique beer-fest hosted by Hollywood Casino Aurora, you can count on sipping distinctive styles from the region's best craft breweries, and it takes place in Oktober, so we're going to go ahead and include it. The fun takes places Saturday, October 7th at the Hollywood Casino parking lot behind Aurora's "Restaurant Row", and VIP ticket holders can get access to Gillerson's Grubbery to load up on their curated rotation of craft beers, cocktails, and locally sourced pub fare.
