More than 120 paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints will be on view in “Rick Bartow: Things You Know but Cannot Explain,” a major retrospective exhibition organized by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA), University of Oregon. Rick Bartow (1946-2016) was one of the nation’s most prominent contemporary Native American artists. His work is permanently held in more than 60 public institutions including The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, National Mall, Washington, D.C. named “We Were Always Here.” Opening reception Tues., Jan. 23 from 5-6:30pm in the Schingoethe Center and Curator Danielle Knapp presents “The Work is the Blessing: Why We Shouldn’t Explain Rick Bartow” in the Tapper Recital Hall at 6:45pm.
