Poetry + Dance + Art
Words In Action is a pioneering performance of poetry and hip-hop dance fused together on one stage. This production will feature Chicago poet Ignatius "Iggy" Mwela and Chicago choreographers Shani Barnett & Trey Turner III. The performance will take place in the main theater of the Center for Performing Arts, located at 777N Green Street on December 11, 2008. There will be two performances available 6-8p and 9-11p. This show brings poetry to life; words are transformed into a visual experience that every eye will fall in love with. The body twisting break dancers high light the poetic lyrics of Mwela. This amazing script has several unique story lines that conquer tough issues such as war, overcoming fear, human competitive nature, life and death decisions, and questioning society's cultural norms, it is destined to challenge your mind, heart, way-of-life and even make you laugh at times. With pulse pounding poetry this extraordinary vivid display will uniquely portray life's problems and solutions through the cut throat language of spoken word. Complimenting the whole event, there will be an art reception before and after each show. The art show will be featuring oil paintings, sculptures, mixed-media pieces, and more. Several pieces of art work will be available for sale; we will be donating a percentage of proceeds to the Chicago Boys and Girls Club. Guests will enjoy drink specials and networking with artists and other guests. In addition to the art show, we will be having a raffle with great prizes for the Boys and Girls Club. All proceeds from the raffle will go to Boys and Girls Club.
