Chicagoland Driving Terms

The Loop
Another name for the heart of downtown Chicago. It got its name from Chicago's elevated train system, the "El," because the track makes a large loop around the downtown.

The Reagan
Another name for I-88

The East-West Tollway
Another name for I-88

The Kennedy
The section of I-90/94 on the north side of Chicago.

Northwest Tollway
I-90, after it breaks from the Kennedy.

The Edens
I-94, after it breaks from the Kennedy.

The Stevenson
Another name for I-55
The Eisenhower Expressway (or "The Ike")
Another name for I-290

Congress Expressway
Original name for the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290)

The Junction
The point on the north side of the city at which the Kennedy and Edens meet.

The Drive
Another name for Lake Shore Drive

Metra
A suburban commuter railroad service that provides regular transportation into and out of Chicago. There are two Metra stations in Aurora.

The Magnificent Mile (or "Mag Mile")
Chicago's Michigan Avenue, specifically located south of Lake Shore Drive and north the Chicago River. Known for great shopping, dining and attractions.
