Hinckley The Village of Hinckley boasts of a proud past, yet with a firm foot toward a bright future. In the 1830's, the then-unsettled lush territory (near Ottawa) was christened Squaw Grove after the squaws who tending camp there. Hinckley was renamed in the 1870's in honor of Francis Hinckley, president of the Chicago and Iowa Railroad. The rail line was placed one-half mile east of the Village of Squaw Grove, which then became known as Hinckley. Later on, Hinckley made history as the site of the first Harlem Globetrotters game on Jan. 7, 1927. Today’s Hinckley offers the privately owned Hinckley Airport, home to Chicagoland Skydiving Center, as well as Windy City Soaring. It also boasts antique stores, a quaint downtown and great comfort food. http://www.dekalbcounty-il.com/~communities/hinckley.shtml
