Civil War Encampment
Aurora Historical Society presents a Civil War Weekend, July 2 and 3, 2011 on the grounds of the Tanner House Museum, Cedar Street and Oak Avenue, Aurora. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students (ages 7 to 17). Under 7, free. Two-day passes are $12 for adults and $8 for students. Hours: 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, July 2; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 3. Includes a field hospital demonstration, encampment, Civil War reenactors, dramatic readings by Phil Van Lear, Donna Benkert and friends from the Warrenville Folklore Center, Letters of the Civil War; a dramatic sketch featuring "Mary and Abe Lincoln," and a band concert by the 33rd Illinois Regimental Band Reenactors. 4th of July Parade
The Independence Day event will start with a patriotic ceremony at 9:15 a.m. Monday, July 4 outside the Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd. The parade will step off at 10 a.m. at the corner of Benton and River streets, marching east to Broadway Avenue, north to Galena Boulevard, west to Stolp Avenue, south to Downer Place and conclude heading west to Middle Avenue. The event is sponsored by the Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 in partnership with the City of Aurora. For more information, visit www.post84.com
