Trendspotting
Biking vacations attracted more than 27 million travelers in the
past five years and they rank as the third most popular outdoor
vacation activity in America, (following camping and hiking). People
who take biking trips tend to be young and affluent—a prime target
audience.
About half are between the ages of 18 and 34 and one-fourth are from
households with an annual income of $75,000 or more. More than 80%
of biking travelers took a camping trip in the past five years and
72% took hiking trips in the past five years.
With more than 36 miles of biking and hiking trails, the Aurora Area
is a perfect fit for this niche travel market.

Travel Media Showcase Update
Our fifth year showcasing a booth at the Travel Media Showcase was
our most successful year ever. Garnering 33 appointments this
year—the max allotted—we secured the most appointments the Aurora
Area CVB has ever with the pool of national freelancers.
One of the writers we spoke with was the keynote speaker to the 2008
Illinois Governor’s Conference in Springfield and one of the
California-based writers agreed to visit the Aurora Area in late
June early July.
Our PR Director was interviewed by a St. Louis radio station show
host and extolled our great hotels, fantastic attractions and
incredible events. The interview is slated to air in January.
