AURORA, Illinois - Aurora's Pigeon Hill Paddlers Kayak Club has arranged for former U.S. Olympian and current professional engineer and Whitewater Kayak Park designer, Scott Shipley, to visit the visit of Aurora to study possible Olympic venues, meet city engineers and deem if the Fox River in Aurora could be utilized for an Olympic venue.
The public meeting will be held on April 9 in the Aurora City Council Chambers, 44 E. Downer Place., Aurora.
Aurora's Pigeon Hill Paddlers Kayak Club has secured sponsorship from Aurora Downtown to cover Shipleyís visit as well as a feasibility study that will answer the question should Chicago win the right to host the 2016 games, which will be made known on April 15.
In addition to the study, Three-time U.S. Olympic kayaker and three-time World Champion Kayaker Scott will discuss whitewater parks his firm, Recreational Engineering and Planning (REP), have planned as well as, visit several Fox River locations in and around Aurora to assess their suitability for whitewater kayak parks.
