Things to Do in Montgomery, Illinois
Rich history surrounds you in Montgomery, from the historic Gray's Mill to the Dickson-Murst Farm and Settler's Cottage Museum. Winding, well-maintained sections of the Fox River Trails encourage cyclists and runners on their treks through the Aurora Area, and the region's largest sports venue rounds out the variety of attractions and things to do here.
Historic Gray's Mill was originally built as a turbine flour mill powered by the Fox River. Today, it's home to South Moon BBQ, a local favorite for authentic slow cooked southern barbecue. The spacious outdoor patio is a great place to sip and savor with great views of the Fox River as it passes beneath the Mill Street Bridge.
Kids can find a lot to do and see at Dickson-Murst Farm, a restored historical farm preserved for visitors to get a glimpse into the agricultural roots of the Aurora Area. Settler's Cottage Museum is the oldest remaining structure in the village, dating back a decade prior to Montgomery's incorporation in the 1850's. A volunteer effort and tremendous community support to revitalize the building was recognized with a Governor's Home Town Award for restoration.
Montgomery Park hugs the Fox River here, providing a scenic backdrop for picnics and community celebrations like Montgomery Fest, a weekend of activities including a carp derby, live entertainment, and frosty craft beer.
The Aurora Area's largest sports venue, Stuart Sports Complex, is located in Montgomery just west of Aurora, where athletes of all ages can find over 30 soccer fields and 8 lighted flex baseball/softball fields, attracting tournaments and events at all levels of competition.
