If you live in Aurora, turn on the tap, take a sip, and celebrate — and if you're visiting the Aurora Area, enjoy your next glass of water in your hotel room or at a local restaurant straight from the tap. It's Illinois' best, after all.

The City of Aurora has won the 2022 Best Water in Illinois contest held by the American Water Works Association – Illinois Section. Aurora earned its spot in the coveted state contest after winning for the eighth time the ‘Best Water in Kane County’ award last December. Held at the annual WaterCon Contest in Springfield, the statewide competition between Aurora, Rockford, Park Forest, and Champaign County allowed the City of Lights to earn its newest, refreshing claim to fame.

For the sixth time, the City of Aurora clinched first place in the annual contest where water was judged on taste, odor, and color. The last win was in 2009.

“Every day our team shows up, does their job well, and allows us to provide the best water for our residents,” said Aurora Water Superintendent David Schumacher. “I’m very proud of the work they do, and the success we have had.”

Aurora now advances to the National Water Competition held in San Antonio in June.

“We are thrilled and excited to bring home the award and advance to nationals to see if we can do even better,” said Assistant Water Superintendent Robert Leible.
