Do you know a young poet? The non-profit organization and digital magazine, This Girls Story, is now seeking competitors for their upcoming Poetry Slam which will be held September 30, 2023 from Noon – 4pm. The hybrid event will be held at Java Plus on Waterford at 1677 Montgomery Rd. in Aurora, Illinois for in-person contestants as well as Zoom for off-site contestants. The theme of the poetry slam is “Stories That Shaped You.” All contestants will be asked to prepare two poems to present—one for the first round and another for the final round. The grand prize winner will receive $100 and a subscription to the magazine. Second place prize is $50 and third place is $25. All winners receive a free subscription to the magazine. The poetry slam is open to all individuals who identify as girls, age 13-19. This Girls Story (TGS) is a quarterly, girl-led digital magazine that showcases creative editorial from girls of the same age group and is published by an editorial team of teen volunteers. The mission of TGS is to provide a creative platform where teen girls can express themselves, gain publishing experience, and build confidence. All participating poets in the poetry slam will have the option to have their poems published in an upcoming issue of the digital magazine. Tickets are also available for the event for $25.00 and available online on the thisgirlsstory.org website. Opportunities are also available for sponsorship of the event. Levels include Haiku ($50 sponsorship), Ode ($100 sponsorship), Sonnet ($250 sponsorship), and Epic ($500 sponsorship).
