Things to Do in Plano, Illinois

In the middle of the 20th century, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe constructed a home here on a magnificent sweep of the Fox River where its owner, Dr. Edith Farnsworth, could enjoy the restorative peace and quiet presented by the home's lush surroundings. You too can enjoy this quaint town in the Aurora Area, home to historic properties, proud traditions, and an annual celebration for the Man of Steel.

The Farnsworth House set the bar for mid-century modern domestic living and represents the ultimate expression of Mies van der Rohe's vision of clarity and simplicity for modern architecture. Tourists from around the world travel to Plano to enjoy the sanctuary-like grandeur of the Farnsworth House as well as its small-town appeal, where you can plan your stay around the Smallville Superfest (and its attendant year-round attraction, the Smallville Museum), honoring Plano's status as a primary filming location in 2013's Man of Steel Superman movie.

The Homestead 1854, a historically significant bed & breakfast that serves as a popular destination for weddings and creative retreats, affords visitors a luxurious departure from which to rest and recharge with candlelight yoga, a beautifully landscaped labyrinth, private dining, and well-appointed meeting space.

If you were raised in the Midwest, chances are you've encountered Plano fishing gear. Its innovative plastic molded tackleboxes set a new standard for outdoor equipment, and you can now visit the Plano Synergy Outlet Store in Plano, Illinois, and test out your new accessories on the angler's paradise that is the Fox River.
