Dreams Rooted in Community

These stories we are sharing are more than just highlighting business owners in our area. It is to showcase our sense of communal pride we feel when one of our own opens their business. For us, these moments symbolize far more than individual achievement—they are dreams for all of us to share, reminders of what’s possible when we lift each other up.

Café del Sol: Family & Flavor

Violet, Maya, and Jackie are the proud owners of Café del Sol located in North Aurora on the south end of Randall Road. A family-run, Latina and locally owned business with roots in Durango, Guerrero, Michoacan, and Morelos, Mexico. The family has been a part of the Aurora area for around 20 years, blending cultural heritage with the modern rhythms of the community.

A Vision Born from Community

The idea to open a café in their community came to them a couple of years ago while visiting other coffee shops around them such as Krema, Moka, and Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Shop. Sharing they thought the “Aurora comunidad could benefit from having a local spot to chismear, study, play Dominos, all while sipping on cafecitos that remind us of home.” Picking North Aurora was an intentional choice for them: “as Aurora residents, we wanted a spot close to home. It was important for us to build into the community we are already a part of.” Their café was born from a desire to create a haven—a gathering place where neighbors become friends.

The Café Experience: Culture Meets Comfort

Café del Sol is set in a colorful space with hand painted murals. Mexican sculptures and cozy couches surround the café to give all guests a comfy place to enjoy their drinks and authentic family recipes. With soft balanced music and quiet spots to sit, this is an amazing place to take friends to or to give yourself a break from busy life. You’ll feel like you’re sitting in your grandparents’ kitchen again, surrounded by comforting warmth and laughter.

Tourism, Togetherness, and Mercaditos

The tourism industry has really helped them in big ways. They have seen many coffee shop tourists come and visit, adding energy and excitement to each day. Each of them “are so grateful that people take their time, energy, and resources to visit our shop while in Aurora.” Violet, Maya, and Jackie are more than just avid coffee enthusiasts—they also love to support other businesses through promoting them in their café. They “also host Mercaditos where we celebrate local vendors by hosting a space for them to sell their items and/or promote their services.” Granting their local community a space to gather and share goods is the embodiment of helping grow the local economy, weaving new friendships and collaboration into the fabric of Aurora.

Café del Sol’s Heartfelt Motto

The café lives by this quote that beautifully describes the atmosphere they have created: “Donde hay cafe, hay sol, y donde hay sol, hay vida.Where there is coffee, there is sun, and where there is sun, there is life." Every visitor feels this spirit radiate from each cup and conversation.
