If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then Martha is the diamond at State Street Jewelers in downtown Geneva. She’s easy to talk to, warm, and beloved by customers—and she’s celebrating her 50th work anniversary with State Street Jewelers this year.
Martha’s journey began under the same roof but with different owners and a different name. Back in 1976, newly married and searching for a job, she landed a position with Bob Anderson, one of the owners of Anderson’s Jewelers. She distinctly remembers the era for its bicentennial jewelry pieces that were being sold at the time. When she had her daughter, the family-run atmosphere of the jewelry store allowed her the flexibility she needed. Today, Martha proudly has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She worked for the Anderson brothers for nine years before they retired. In 1985, the brothers sold the business to Jeff and Donna Hampton, who combined three ventures to form State Street Jewelers. Donna owned a British import jewelry shop on Third Street, while Jeff ran a suburban jewelry service and repair business—and together, they merged their talents and storefronts into what has become a Geneva staple. Martha continued with them, working in sales and helping in every corner of the business. Over the years, she’s held various roles, lending her expertise to all departments when needed.
Born and raised in Geneva, Martha loves sharing her hometown with visitors. When friends or family come to town, she always suggests stopping by the Geneva History Museum to learn about the area, indulging in sweets at Grahams Chocolate, and browsing gifts at The Little Traveler. For families with young kids, she recommends Peck Farm Park for some outdoor fun. In recognition of her dedication to the Geneva business community, Martha was honored as the Geneva Chamber of Commerce’s Wood Award recipient for 2025—a testament to her decades of commitment, customer care, and hometown pride.
One of Martha’s favorite parts of her job is helping customers celebrate life’s milestones with the perfect piece of jewelry. State Street Jewelers offers a wide range of services including custom designs, repairs, and an onsite gemologist to ensure every piece shines with meaning.
